Bryansk lies on the banks of the Desna River in the western part of the Russian Federation. The city is the administrative center of Bryansk Oblast. Bryansk was founded around 985. Bryansk is quite ancient, it was mentioned more than once in chronicles. For the first time - in 1146. In the times of Rus', it had the name Debriansk.
